Really seems like Offsite Backup should be a main nav option, not a setting. It would be great if there was something that showed the actual status of the S3 backup without having to look at logs or the bucket.

We have some improvements on the roadmap for this. We want to allow multiple offsite backup schedules, so you could send different file sets to different locations at different times, for example.
When we get to that it will have to move out into it’s own section.
Showing the backup status is a good idea, and we can probably do that before we get to the other stuff.
